DEVELOPMENT - Principle photography is complete!

From constructing our music video, we realised that without an indication of the boy in our narrative at the beginning, our storyline wasn't as clear as we had previously planned. To resolve this problem we decided to undertake more principle photography so that we could introduce the boy into our narrative. Me and Kate H arranged to meet up after school with our boy model so that we could film this last part of our principle photography. Altogether we had to film two different shots.

The first shot we filmed was showing Facebook, where we show the boy's relationship status changing to 'being in a relationship' to 'single'. This demonstrates to the audience that he no longer has a girlfriend, subsequently showing that he is lonely. This allows the user to recognise he is in the same position as the girl, Alice and explains why he is also alone in London.

This is the screen that we have filmed which reveals the change of the boy's relationship status. We have previously used shots of Facebook in our video to tell our narrative and have therefore kept this feature consistent by using it to explain the boy's situation. This shot demonstrates his loneliness to the audience.

Here is Kate H filming the shot of the relationship change on Facebook
I checked the footage of Facebook to ensure it was suitable for its purpose. We both decided that we were happy with this shot and could therefore complete our principle photography.
This concept of the boy being lonely corresponds with the idea of the main girl being lonely as well. The loneliness of the girl is shown throughout the day as the friends she is supposed to be meeting at London result to dropping out at the last minute. This concept represents her loneliness in a big city because no one is going to meet her and she is therefore alone.

The other shot that we undertook to demonstrate our narrative was of our boy model walking out of the house which introduces him to the audience. This enable the audience to identify what he looks like and that he is a character within our narrative. This means ths audience are able to recognise him during the rest of the video and can identify that he has a purpose. We set up a tripod and filmed the boy walking out of the house, showing that he is going out for the day. This storyline of the boy is continued when the audience next sees him at the train station in the background when he and the girl are going through the ticket barriers. From this shot our narrative develops between the two characters.

DEVELOPMENT - Last day of principle photography

I have arranged for our boy model to be available to film for us today in order to complete the last section of our principle photography. We have one gap left in our timeline which is where this filming will be going. It consists of our boy model and it will show how he gets to the train station. The shots will consist of him putting his jacket on and leaving his house and him walking down the street which is how he got to the train station.

I contacted him yesterday to ensure he was still available for filming and I made sure that he will be wearing the same outfit from previous principle photography to ensure the continuity in costume is kept. Me and Kate will be filming these shots at her house and we will be doing this after school. I have arranged for our boy model to meet us there straight from school so we can undertake our filming. The only piece of equipment we need for our shooting is a video camera as we are filming hand held shots, and a stills camera in order to provide evidence of our filming.

We are collecting the video camera at lunch so that our required equipment is available and our filming can be undertaken straightaway.

DEVELOPMENT - Organising final principle photography

For our music video the rough cut is now complete except for the small gap on our timeline at the beginning of the story which involves our boy model. I have organised for this filming to take place next Monday so that we can complete the whole rough cut and can then focus on adding motion to our shots.

Today I contacted our boy model and arranged for our group to film him on Monday and we discussed when and where we are going to meet.

I have planned ahead by writing down what shots we need to film on Monday. The shots are of our boy model putting a jacket on and coming out of his house and then a shot showing him walking down the street which shows him travelling to the train station.

DEVELOPMENT - Development of bus stop advert

DEVELOPMENT - Rough cut is nearly finished!

Today during our practical lesson we focused on our band shots and finishing the end sequence. We imported our studio footage which we cut and altered the speed/duration in order to achieve lip syncing. These shots included close ups of the singer, close and mid shots of the bass guitarist and a mid shot of the drummer. Together we created a range of band shots which are featured throughout the video.

From obtaining feedback from our peers, we have identified that some of the band shots can be extended as a few of them appear to short. Therefore this is an improvement we shall make when we are next video editing. We also need to add motion such as position, zoom and rotation by inserting key frames and altering these effects within our shots.

From receiving other feedback from our peers, we have chosen to add a dip to white effect between the band shots and narrative to create a flashback which distinguishes the two sections throughout the video. This makes it clear to the audience when there is a band shot and when the story is telling the narrative. This convention has also been used in an existing video which is (find video)

Once we added the dip to white effect to our timeline, we had to alter the start and end to ensure the effect did not last too long and did not appear as a flash on the screen due to it being too quick. Therefore we altered this to how we wanted it and wrote the measurements down which we then used for when we added more of this effect later on in the timeline.
We also completed the end sequence of our video which consists of the footage from Trafalgar Square when the boy and girl meet in front of the fountain. The sequence consists of the girl and boy throwing pennies into the fountain as if they are making a wish, and these series of shots are quick cuts of them noticing eachother which builds up to the end shot. There are cuts of close ups of each of them walking around the fountain where they meet in the middle. The video then cuts to the end band shot of a close up of our singer and from here it cuts to the final shot of the video,

This shot is slower than the rest of the shots within the video because this represents that they have found each other and that the video is coming to an end. This slow movement also matches with the slow tempo of the song. We have a final band shot and from here it fades to the two models in front of the fountain which slowly zooms and dips to black to end the video.

DEVELOPMENT - Development of bus advert

I have developed my bus advert by making improvements to it by altering the layout of it. Here is the original bus advert I created which advertises the band's newest single.

From here I realised an area for improvement which is included the name of the band. This is important for the audience to know because they may not be able to recognise the single from just the name and the image of the band. Therefore including all of the relevant information for this advert is important.

After adding the name of the band, I felt that the name of the song should be larger than the name of the band because it’s their single which is being promoted. Therefore I changed the layout so that 'Kings of Leon' is smaller than the name. From this I centered this and developed the following advert. I also decided on the right hand side of the image the information about where the single is available should be set out different and because I have removed the image of the single from the left hand side, I need to re-arrange the right hand side so that this image can be included.

From here I added a stroke to the image to make it stand out on the bus advert and section it off from the rest of the content. I added the image of the single on the right hand side and re-arranged the content so that I could include the HMV logo and the single image.

This is my developed bus advert at this point:

Here I have changed the words 'OUT NOW' to 'AVAILABLE' because this is improved grammar and makes more sense to the audience.

DEVELOPMENT - Improvements to alignment on web page

                                          Original                                Edited/ improvement

I have included a fact file on the biography page of my website which lists different facts about the band. I had previously aligned it by having the sub headings and the text attached with it followed straight after. However, this alignment looked messy and need to be justified and therefore I improved this by having the text attached with the sub headings underneath each one. This sets out the information more clearly and improves the alignment of the text.
